We’d been dating for a few months when she said “We’ve been invited to a wedding. Shall I find somewhere for us to stay over?”
She was still studying and my salary was laughable so we opted for self-catering on a farm. Think rusty door handles and broken bed broken springs. Her birthday fell in the same month as the wedding, so I splurged and made the weekend even more memorable.
Needless to say, our first time at The Robertson Small Hotel was glorious and has become the gold standard to which other locations are compared.
Open the folding doors and walk into the swimming pool. Run a bath and stare at the stars through the glass sky-light. Help yourself to the mini-bar, because it’s included!
Okay, so I am probably being a little unfair in comparing other spaces to this one – The Robertson Small hotel did win Best Luxury Country Hotel in South Africa 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014. Just walking into this room feels like a hug from your best friend.
Breakfast is included and not to be missed. Freshly squeezed juice, great coffee and a beautiful breakfast buffet followed by a scrumptious cooked breakfast. Dinner at Reubens is optional, but the aromas wafting from the kitchen will draw you right in. Locally sourced seasonal produce is always preferred and it shows in the quality of dishes the kitchen sends out. Although Reuben Riffel is not often in the kitchen, his internationally renowned guiding hand is in every detail.
The Robertson Small hotel prides itself on authentic hospitality, which is why the first time we visited will not be our last.
*The Roberstaon Small Hotel underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2016 and we hope to visit again soon
